Custom number plate styles vary from state to state with some states offering a huge range and some not offering all that much. Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania are ahead of the other states with not only their range of plates but also their custom plates website which makes it easy for you to design and pay for your plate all online. The NSW and SA sites also allow you to design and pay for your personalised number plates online but the system and range is not as good. In the WA, ACT and NT you are required to fill in a form and post it and you are unable to see what custom plate combinations are available.
In addition to states having different styles available, they also have different pricing. In SA and NSW, you are charged an annual fee on top of your initial cost. This annual fee means that if you keep your custom plate for an extended period of time it could end up costing you more that your car. The other states don’t charge an additional annual fee more so a once off fee.
